JACKSON, Miss – The Belhaven University volleyball team fell to the #17 ranked team in all of Division III volleyball Friday night (17th of 442 teams), falling 3-0 to the #17 UT Tyler Patriots.
Despite the score, the Blazers went head to head with one of the best teams in all of volleyball, looking like the team in control multiple times in the contest.
With the loss, the Blazers fell to 10-14 overall. The Patriots (21-1) lone loss of the season continues to be to last seasons Division III National Champion, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Midway through the first set, the UT Tyler Patriots controlled the game with a 14-7 lead.
- UT Tyler finished out the first set winning eleven of the final seventeen points to win 25-13.
- Belhaven found its stride in the second set against a challenging UT Tyler team.
- Belhaven looked to be in control of set two as the green and gold dominated most of the set, leading 18-12.
- However, with the aid of a 12-1 run, the Patriots regained only their second lead in the set, taking a 24-19 lead.
- The Patriots took set two by a score of 25-20.
- Belhaven matched the intensity of a nationally ranked team for the majority of the contest. In set three, the Blazers and Patriots combined for a total of fourteen lead changes.
- With the score all knotted up at 19-19, UT Tyler finished on a 6-1 run to claim a 25-20 set victory and a 3-0 overall match victory.

KEY STATISTICS
- As a team, the Blazers had 24 kills, 31 digs, 20 assists, and a total of 30.0 points.
- Jackie Fredericks led the green and gold with seven kills, followed by Ryan Hardin and Emily Carroll with five apiece.
- Grace Eidson and Meghan Luker finished tops on the team with eight and six assists, respectively. Eidson added two services aces to her night.
- Sydney McEachern collected a team-high twelve digs in the contest.

The Blazers will remain at home tomorrow with an American Southwest Conference matchup against UT Dallas. The match will begin at 1:00 p.m. in at Rugg Arena.
