Blazers Falter in Four Sets to McMurry University

RICHARDSON, Texas.– On the final day of the ASC Crossover, the Belhaven University volleyball team fell, 3-1, Saturday afternoon against McMurry University in American Southwest Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- McMurry jumped out to a 14-4 lead midway through the first set.

- The Blazers struggled to gain any ground, as the war hawks had a 22-12 lead in the first set.

- McMurry would win the next three out of four points to take the first set 25-13.

- The War hawks continued to dominate the offensive side of the ball, as the Blazers fell behind 9-2 in the second set.

-The Green and Gold ripped off four straight points to narrow the lead to 9-6.

- McMurry would go on and score the next seven out of 10 points to bring the score to 16-9.

- Belhaven found themselves in a hole down 22-10 still in the second set. 

- The Green and Gold closed the second set winning the next five out of eight points but would lose the second set by a score of 25-15.

- McMurry had the 15-11 lead through the third set, before Belhaven's offense came alive and took the 21-17 lead in the third set.

- The Green and Gold controlled the rest of the set and captured the third set by a score of 25-22.

- For the majority of the fourth set, Belhaven and McMurry went back and forth to bring the score to 17-16 with the War hawks having the advantage.

- McMurry went on to claim the fourth and final set with a score of 25-20.

KEY STATISTICS
 
- Ryan Hardin finished with team-high 12 kills in the match.

- Sydney McEachern finished the contest with 28 digs.

- Carissa Pauda registered seven kills and 25 total attacks during the contest.

- Lauren Whiting, Callista Moore and Chelsea Creighton each tabbed four kills in the matchup.

- Grace Eidson added 17 assists and 10 digs.

- The Blazers finished the match with 34 kills, six service aces and 33 assists.

UP NEXT
 
The Blazers will return to Rugg Arena on Tuesday, October 16, to square off against the Louisiana College Wildcats to start the last homestand. First Serve is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
