RICHARDSON, Texas - The Belhaven University volleyball team fell 3-0 to Hardin-Simmons in the first match Friday afternoon before falling 3-1 to Sul Ross State in match two of the ASC Crossover Challenge in Richardson, Texas.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Hardin-Simmons Match

- Hardin-Simmons jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first set before Belhaven rallied off three straight points to tie the set back up at 4-4.

- The Cowgirls distanced themselves with four straight points to go ahead 8-4.

- Hardin-Simmons maintained the momentum through set one, winning 25-16

- Set two did not fair much different as the Blazers fell behind 13-2 in the first fifteen points on the set.

- Belhaven cut the lead to 14-7 with the help of five Cowgirl attacking errors.

- Each team split the final twenty-two points, 11-11, as HSU won 25-18 in set two.

- Belhaven kept pace with the Cowgirls in the third set, trailing 11-9 before HSU went on a 9-1 run to lead 20-10.

- The Blazers ultimately fell 25-15 in the final set to fall 3-0 in the match to Hardin-Simmons.

- Sul Ross State Match

- The Lobos started off set one with a 6-2 lead before Belhaven put together a 7-4 run to pull within one point of the Lobos.

- The Blazers fell behind 17-12 yet once again rallied off four straight points with the help of two Lobo errors and kills from Emily Carroll and Ryan Hardin. Belhaven trailed 17-16.

- The rally fell short as Sul Ross went on an 8-3 run to win 25-19 in the first set.

- In the second set, Belhaven used multiple straight points to gain leads of 7-4, 13-9, 18-12, and ultimately claim the second set, 25-20.

- Both teams were tied 1-1 after two sets.

- Belhaven took a 17-12 lead in set three but the Lobos tied the set up at 17-17 with five straight point.

- Tied 17-17 Belhaven regained the lead 20-17 with kills from Carissa Pauda, Lauren Whiting and a service ace from Megan Nobles.

- The Lobos continued the straight points of their own with a 6-0 run to take a 23-20 lead. Belhaven could not complete a run, falling 25-23 to fall 2-1 in the match.

- Sul Ross State continued the momentum into the fourth set, taking a commanding 10-4 lead to begin the set.

- However, Belhaven was not finished as they ripped off seven straight points to tie the Lobos at 12-12.

- Belhaven fought back to take a three-point lead, 17-14, before Sul Ross once again had a run of their own to regain a 21-18 lead.

- Each team continued to claim multiple points in a row, with Belhaven rallying off three points to tie the set up at 21-21 before Sul Ross collected four straight points to win 25-21 and take the match 3-1.

-  Belhaven had 27 team kills through all three matches against HSU.

- Ryan Hardin led the team with seven kills, followed by Emily Carroll with four kills and Lauren Whiting with two kills.

- Emily Carroll also had one service ace and two blocks.

- Jackie Fredericks led the green and gold with three blocks.

- Grace Eidson finished with six assists and four digs.

- Sydney McEachern collected a team high twelve digs.

- Ryan Hardin led Belhaven with 17 kills. Belhaven had 61 kills as a team in the match.

- Jackie Fredericks and Carissa Pauda each had nine kills apiece.

- Belhaven had eight blocks as a team, led by Emily Carroll with four blocks.

- Meghan Luker collected 20 assists to lead the green and gold. Grace Eidson posted 18 assists

- Belhaven had three individuals to post fifteen or more digs in the contest.

- Sydney McEachern finished with 26 digs, Megan Nobles with 19 digs, and Lauren Whiting with 16 digs.
