HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blazers got off to a slow start, as the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Cru went on a 12-0 run in the first five minutes of action.
-
India Sims made the first basket for the Green and Gold and made both free throws after Haven Neal fouled her.
-The Blazers then went on a 7-0 run to bring the score to 12-7. Both teams started to find the net, but the Cru had the lead, 16-12, going into the second frame.
-The Cru opened the second quarter shooting lights out to have the 27-13 advantage.
- After a jumper and a free throw from
Lauren Brooks and a three-pointer by
AaLiyaha Thornton and
Brittany Ford, the Blazers found themselves down 41-22 at intermission.
- In the opening five minutes of the third quarter, the Cru came out shooting and went on a 10-4 run to extend the lead to 51-26.
- The Blazers did not give up as they held the Cru to only four points to close the third quarter.
- Just before the buzzer to end the third quarter, Aaliyaha Thornton drained a three-pointer to bring the score to 55-36.
- The Cru led by as much as 19 points in the fourth quarter but the Green and Gold cut the lead to eight with just 2:36 left to play.
- Aaliyaha Thornton drained a three-pointer with 36 seconds left in the game, but the Cru held on to win 76-61.

KEY STATISTICS

Alexis Caldwell and
Brittany Ford led the scoring for the Blazers with 11 points apiece. Caldwell also had seven rebounds in the contest.
- Aaliyaha Thornton chipped in nine points, one assist and one rebound.

Kayla Smothers had eight points and led the Blazers in steals with three, while
Kimberly Calhoun poured in seven points and led the team in rebounds with 11.

Lauren Brooks had six points in the contest.

Cora Cooley put up four points with three rebounds and five assists.

Kelsey Brown ended the afternoon with three points, two rebounds, and two assists.
- To close out the scoring for the Blazers
India Sims had two points, six rebounds, and three assists.
- As a team, the Blazers shot 72.7 percent from the free throw line and 35 percent from behind the arc.
