JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven University men's basketball team suffered a 70-65 defeat on Monday night to Louisiana College in American Southwest Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- For the first eight minutes of the game, both teams struggled to find the basket as Louisiana College took an early 17-7 lead with 12:12 remaining in the first half.

- Despite scoring just seven points in the first eight minutes, the Blazers would quickly find some offensive explosiveness by scoring ten points in the next two and a half minutes to close the gap to 18-17.

- Yet, LC continued to find ways to distant themselves from the Blazers as they would once again jump out to an eight-point lead with 7:07 remaining until halftime.

- At the half, Louisiana College held a 36-30 lead despite the Blazers shooting 27 percent from the field as a team.

- LC was able to stretch its lead to 59-49 with 4:39 remaining in the game, however, Belhaven continued to fight and put themselves within striking distance multiple times.

- After being down by ten with a little over four minutes left in the game, C-Spire athlete of the week Isiah Brown would hit two clutch three-pointers that helped the Blazers pull right back within three points, 61-58 with 1:49 left to go.

- Louisiana College looked to have control once again as they hit a few more baskets to go ahead 66-59 with under a minute to go. Belhaven continued to battle, as the green and gold were only behind 66-63 with thirty seconds. 

- Unfortunately, the Blazers were forced to foul in the remaining seconds of the game, and Louisiana College was able to make the most of their free throw opportunities. The Wildcats would go on to win by a final score of 70-65.

KEY STATISTICS

- Isiah Brown finished with yet another outstanding performance as he led Belhaven with 19 points and a team-high 4-7 from behind the arc.

- Rick Hodum finished with a team second-best 12 points on the night. Hodum also led the team with two steals.

- Brent Webber and Victor Price each added 9 points, while Joshua Roberts finished with a team high four assists

- Terik Richardson was a force in the post as Richardson collected nine rebounds. 

- The Blazers shot 29 percent from the field as a team and 25 percent from three-point range.

- Belhaven scored nearly half of its points from the bench, as the bench was able to produce 30 points on the night.

Belhaven will return to action with a road trip to Richardson, Texas to take on ASC opponent UT Dallas this Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m.
