JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven University women's basketball faced a tough test on Saturday afternoon against the top team from the ASC in East Texas Baptist. The Blazers put forth a strong effort, but ultimately fell 61-47.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a back and forth affair early on in the first quarter as both teams traded baskets.
- The Blazers did a nice job of attacking the post early on and were able to find ways to score inside the paint.
- ETBU led 12-9 after the first quarter of play after scoring the final five points of the period.
- In the second quarter, both teams struggled from the field early on.
- The Tigers connected on four three point field goals in the quarter, which led to a 9-0 run to lead 25-15.
- Alexis Caldwell tabbed 10 points in the first half to keep the Blazers within 10 at 27-17 at halftime.
- Belhaven showed signs of life early on in the third quarter after a 6-0 run trimmed the deficit down to six at 35-29.
- ETBU continued to answer from behind the arc as their long range shots kept falling through the net.
- The Blazers kept pace offensively and trailed by just eight at 41-33 after three quarters of action.
- In the final period, Belhaven closed the lead down to four points at 49-45 after Brittany Ford drilled a three point shot from the right win.
- ETBU would quickly change the momentum of the contest after going on a 10-1 run which increased the lead out to 59-46.
- Only two more points were scored in the last two minutes of play as the Blazers were unable to successfully recover.

KEY STATISTICS
- AaLiyaha Thornton and Alexis Caldwell both scored 12 points apiece to lead the Blazers in scoring. Thornton also recorded seven rebounds and dished out a team-high four assists.
- Lauren Brooks also tabbed 10 points and brought in a team-high nine rebounds.
- Brittany Ford Chipped in with six points and Kayla Smothers added five points and six rebounds.
- The Blazers as a team shot 24 percent from the field and shot just 3-24 from behind the arc. The Green and Gold also committed 16 turnovers.
- Belhaven did improve from the free throw line, and shot 64 percent on 18-28 attempts.
- Additionally, BU totaled 20 points scored inside the paint.

UP NEXT
Belhaven will return to the hardwood on Monday as they play host to ASC opponent Louisiana College. Tip-off is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
