JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven University men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 defeat on Saturday afternoon to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at the Belhaven Bowl Stadium in American Southwest Conference play.
Belhaven drops to 1-5-4 on the season and is now 1-3-1 in ASC play.
Mary Hardin-Baylor struck first midway through the first half off of a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, the Green and Gold got on the board thanks to a long goal from forty-yards out from Mateus Holanda to even the contest at 1-1.
The second half continued with more extremely physical play. Seven yellow cards were assessed throughout the course of the match.
With under twenty-one seconds to play, Belhaven committed a foul inside the box. The Cru would score the game-winning goal off of the ensuing penalty kick to hold on to a 2-1 advantage.
As a team, the Green and Gold posted eight shots. Somto Ngwudike and Mateus Holanda each recorded two shots on-goal.
Goalkeeper Thomas Blake registered three saves in the loss.
The Blazers will next play at Hardin-Simmons University on Thursday, October 5 at 3:30 p.m.
