ABILENE, Texas – The Belhaven University men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision in double overtime to the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys Thursday night at HSU Soccer Complex in Abilene, Texas.
The Blazers jumped to an early lead in the 15
th minute when the cowboys deflected the ball into their own net. The Cowboys then got a goal in the 24
th minute off of a penalty kick to tie the game 1-1. The Cowboys would then score the game-winning goal in the 107
th minute to make the score 2-1.
The Green and Gold took 18 shots in the match; nine of those shots were on goal, while the Cowboys had 20 shots with six being on goal.
John Dunbar led the Blazers with four shots with two of the shots being on goal, while
Micah Taylor and
Alex Hale added three shots apiece.
Goalkeeper
Thomas Blake posted seven saves in the contest.
Belhaven drops to 1-6- 4 and 1-4-1 in ASC play while Hardin-Simmons improves to 3-3-1 and 2-2-1 in conference play.
The Blazers will stay in Abilene to face off against McMurry Saturday, Oct 7. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm.
