BROWNWOOD, Texas- The Belhaven women's soccer team returned to action Saturday with a game against Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas.
In the first half of play, Howard Payne would grab the early lead with a goal from Jada Austin to make the score 1–0 with just 19:33 in to the game.Â
Six minutes later Jada Austin would once again find the back of the net for Howard Payne to extend their lead to 2-0.Â
At the half the Blazers had 10 shots as a team, compared to Howard Payne's 11 shots. Despite being down 2-0, the Blazers would not go away as Jessica Mahoney would find the back of the net and trim the Yellowjackets lead down to 2-1 with just 25:10 left in the game.Â
Unfortunately, Mahoney's goal would be the only score the Blazers managed to have find the back of the goal, as Belhaven would fall by a final score of 2-1.Â
The Blazers would finish with a total of 17 shots in the game. Mahoney would lead the team with 8 total shots, 5 shots on goal, and the lone score for Belhaven.Â
Dominique Farias finished the game with 4 shots total, with 1 shot being on goal. Erica Rempel and Lauren Smith would each tally 2 shots a piece. On the defensive side, goalkeeper Noelle Hill would collect 6 saves on 18 shots by Howard Payne.
The loss now leaves Belhaven with an overall record of 2-5-1 and 1-2 in ASC play. The Blazers will have a few days off as they return back home to take on Concordia University Texas this Thursday at Belhaven Bowl Stadium. The two teams will face off starting at 5:00 p.m.
