Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Blake Weir

Blazers Falter to No. 25 UT Dallas in Overtime

RICHARDSON, Texas - The Belhaven men's soccer team continued their schedule on the road, this time with a trip to Richardson, Texas to face #25 UT Dallas.

Tonights game featured a ton of shots, as the Blazers would shoot 14 goals as a team with 6 of their shots being on goal. UT Dallas finished with 13 shots as a team with 6 shots on goal.

After a scoreless first half, Belhaven's Michah Taylor would come into the game, off the bench, to help put the Blazers on the board 1-0 with 19:19 left in the game.

The minutes were winding down, and it looked as if the Blazers would capture their first win of the season. Yet, with 6:40 left on the clock, UT Dallas would add their first score to the board with a header from Daaron McFarling to even the score at 1-1.

For the fourth time this season the Blazers would need overtime to decide the matchup. With the previous three overtimes on the season ending in ties, this matchup would turn out differently for the Blazers.

Just four minutes into the first overtime period, UT Dallas' Hunter Williams would take a redirected header from Mason Anderson and head it in himself to steal the win on the golden goal.

With the loss the Blazers fall to 0-4-3 overall on the season and 0-2 in ASC play. Freshman Ian Requilman, in his return back to his home state of Texas, led the Blazers with 4 total shots tonight. Somto Ngwudike would follow behind Requilman with 3 shots for the games.

Juniors John Dunbar and Alex Hale would each tally 2 shots a piece. Coming off the bench, Michah Taylor would only take one shot, but his one shot would be the lone goal the Blazers scored on the night.

The Blazers will stay in Texas and travel to Brownwood, TX to take on Howard Payne (4-1) this Saturday starting at 4:30 p.m.
