Box Score JACKSON, Miss. - A week after successfully sweeping all four of their games in the Belhaven Classic, the Lady Blazers volleyball team returned to the court to take on the 13th ranked UT Dallas lady volleyball team to open conference play.
The Blazers would ultimately fall in three straight sets to lose the match, but there were plenty of moments in this matchup where the Blazers seemed to have all the momentum on their side.Â
After falling in the first two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-20, the Blazers looked to be in striking distance of winning set three when they found themselves leading by 6 points by a score of 17-11.Â
Unfortunately, UT Dallas would catch fire and have the momentum swing back in their favor as the lady Comets would go on a 14-2 run and take the match by a final score of 25-19.Â
With the loss the Blazers fall to 4-5 overall and 0-1 to start conference play. On the night, the Blazers were led by senior Blaykleigh Smythe, who registered 8 kills, and Junior Lauren Whiting, who added another 6 kills.Â
As a team, the Blazers would finish with 26 kills compared to UT Dallas' 32 kills. Freshman, Sydney McEachern had a game high 14 digs for the Blazers.
Kelly Aholt, led the team with 20 of the Blazers 26 team assists for the matchup. The preseason ASC watch list honoree now has collected a team high 171 assists through nine games this season.
