LONGVIEW, TEXAS - Belhaven men's tennis earned a split on the road Saturday versus American Southwest Conference (ASC) opponents Texas-Tyler and LeTourneau, falling 8-1 to the 17th-ranked Patriots before rebounding to defeat LeTourneau 6-3.Â
Belhaven moves to 11-6 on the season after today's results with just two regular season matches remaining on the 2017 schedule.Â
Rene Ramos earned the lone win for the Blazers against Texas-Tyler, taking a 7-6, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles. Ramos and
Joan Soler were narrowly defeated at No. 1 doubles, 8-6.Â
In the win over LeTourneau, Ramos and Soler won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles while
Sebastian Barrientos and
Ivan Alberto Kerkoc picked up a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles.Â
Holding a 2-1 advantage after doubles play, the Green and Gold took four of the six singles matchups to come away with the match win. Ramos won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, remaining undefeated in singles action on the season at 13-0.Â
Kerkoc took a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 3, Barrientos won 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 5 spot, and
Travous Wilson defeated his opponent 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 6 spot. Soler narrowly lost 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (13-11) at No. 2. Â
Next up, the Blazers return home to host Loyola University New Orleans on Tuesday, April 11 at 3 p.m. for Senior Day.Â
