JACKSON, Miss. - Belhaven softball continues its stretch on the road, traveling to Brownwood, Texas this weekend to take on the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets. The three-game series kicks off with a doubleheader Friday beginning at 2 p.m., and concludes with a single game Saturday at 12 p.m.
Belhaven (10-19) will be looking for its first true road win of the season, having dropped four conference road series. The Blazers do own a 4-2 record this season in neutral-site games. Most recently, the Blazers dropped three games at Hardin-Simmons. The Green and Gold held the Cowgirls to just eight runs for the series, but couldn't get much going in the batter's box, recording just seven hits over three games.
Senior pitcher
Taylor Surrento tossed her ninth complete game of the season in game one at Hardin-Simmons, striking out four batters while allowing just one run in six innings. For the season, Surrento ranks third in the ASC in strikeouts (69) and tenth in innings pitched (83.1).
Junior pitcher
Lauren Feagin pitched well over the weekend as well, recording a 3.31 ERA in 6.1 innings pitched. Over her last five appearances, the Judsonia, Ark. native has tallied a 1.50 ERA.
As a team, the Blazers pitching staff owns a 2.81 ERA over their past 14 games.
Howard Payne (5-24-1) enters this weekend's series with an 11-game losing streak, and have lost 19 of their last 20. The Yellow Jackets are coming off being swept by No. 21 UT Dallas. Howard Payne owns a 4-11-1 record at home this season.
Senior infielder Taylor Rushing leads Howard Payne with a .303 batting average while sophomore Audrey Simpson has added a .273 average with two home runs and 13 runs scored.
HPU is allowing opponents to hit .368 and score 7.5 runs per game.
Belhaven took two of three from Howard Payne last season in Jackson, defeating the Yellow Jackets 9-0 and 13-2 in the first two games, before falling 1-0 in the series finale.
