Blazers Win Fourth Straight, Rout Tougaloo 13-3

JACKSON, Miss. - Belhaven baseball earned its fourth straight win on Tuesday afternoon by defeating crosstown opponent Tougaloo College, 13-3, at Smith-Wills Stadium.

Belhaven (16-9) was on the board out of the gate in the bottom of the first inning. After a pop up started the Blazers offense, Terrell Hodges walked and stole second. Stephen Sexton brought him home on an RBI single to the shortstop where Hodges did not stop running from second base.

After Daniel Ammirati extended the inning with a single, Will Costinett smashed his third consecutive homer in as many at-bats with a shot to left field. The three-run bomb gave BU the 4-0 advantage.

In the second, Tougaloo (8-23) scratched across a run off of starter David Hall, but the Green and Gold responded in the bottom half. After three straight walks drawn by JG MIley, Reed Bolton and Hodges, Sexton brought home the fifth run with a bases loaded walk.

After a Tougaloo pitching change, Ammirati brought home the sixth run on a sacrifice fly.

Costinett tacked his second hit of the game with an RBI single to score Hodges.

In the third, the Blazers scored an additional run via a Hodges RBI base knock to right center, scoring Miley.

The Blazers scored their ninth run of the game off of Costinett's base hit to bring home Ammirati, who led off the inning with a single.

In the fifth, the Green and Gold put the contest away with a four-spot in the inning. Trip Benson led off the inning with a single. Following Bolton reaching base with a hit-by-pitch, Hodges loaded the bases with a single. Two batters later, Ammirati brought Benson home from third on a bases loaded walk.

Two batters later, Ryan Wesson, pinch hitting, scored two runs with a base knock to left field, scoring Bolton and Colton Fontana

Hunter Harsh, also pinch hitting, brought home BU's 13th run with a single, scoring Josh King.

The Bulldogs added two to make it 13-3, but the lead would hold up for the Green and Gold.

David Hall (5-2) pitched five innings, allowed one unearned run on two hits and two walks with one strikeout on 59 pitches.

Costinett finished with three hits, while Ammirati and Hodges each tabbed two hits for the Blazers in the win.

Including the seventh and eighth of Saturday's game against Concordia Texas, BU has scored in seven of its last eight innings played.

The Green and Gold return to the diamond on Friday, as they travel to Belton, Texas to square off with the Crusaders of Mary Hardin-Baylor in American Southwest Conference action. The three-game series will begin with a doubleheader on Friday, beginning at 4 p.m.
