AUSTIN, TEXAS - Belhaven University softball takes on Sul Ross State University for a three-game series this weekend in Austin, Texas on the campus of Concordia Texas. The Blazers and the Lobos will play a doubleheader Friday at 2 p.m., followed by the series finale Saturday at 12 p.m.
Belhaven (9-14) is coming off of a home doubleheader sweep of Rust College Wednesday. The Blazers scored a season-high 13 runs in their game one victory before completing the sweep with an 11-3 victory in game two.
Freshman
Marlee Blackwell went 3-for-4 versus Rust with one double, one triple, three runs and five RBI while junior
Toni Wilson finished the doubleheader with four hits, three runs and three RBI.
Belhaven has won five of its past eight games, including a three-game sweep of ASC opponent the University of the Ozarks.
The Blazers' offense rank fifth in the conference in on-base percentage (.357), fourth in doubles (33) and sixth in walks (63). In the circle, the Green and Gold rank third in strikeouts (99).
Sul Ross State enters the weekend series with a 9-16 overall record and a 6-12 mark in the ASC. Most recently, the Lobos earned a 3-1 victory over Hardin-Simmons. They have won four of their past seven games.
Senior Destanie Hernandez leads the Lobos with a .384 batting average and ranks second in the ASC in doubles (8). Junior Darrian Doederlein has recorded a .308 average with 10 RBI.
As a team, Sul Ross is hitting .273 with a .344 slugging percentage. In the circle, the Lobos rank fifth in the ASC in ERA (3.42) and opposing batting average (.283).
Belhaven swept Sul Ross last season in Abilene, Texas, defeating the Lobos 8-0, 8-3 and 12-3.
