JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven women's basketball team was unable to answer UT Dallas on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Comets, 88-58 inside Rugg Arena.
A close battle through the first four-plus minutes of the contest, UTD eventually went on an 11-0 run in about a two minute span in the opening quarter.
Down 28-14 after the first ten minutes of play, BU (11-10) was able to get the deficit down to as low as seven points. However, Texas Dallas (18-3) got the lead back to 15, 43-28 at halftime.
The Comets outscored the Blazers, 45-30, in the second half, and they continued their dominance against opposition. After allowing 58 points Saturday, UTD now averages 54 points per game, tops in the American Southwest Conference.
Candler Gregory and
Vamikka Smith each recorded 12 points and seven boards for the Blazers. Smith, along with four blocks, corralled six boards on the offensive glass.
Kelsey Brown totaled nine points and assisted on three shots.
Alyssa Crockett finished the game with 22 points for UTD, while Kayla Reinhardt scored 21 points.
The Green and Gold hit the road for the final time in the regular season to take on Texas Tyler and LeTourneau. Tip from Tyler will commence at 5:30 p.m. Thursday evening, while start of the game at Longview is slated for 1 p.m. Satruday.
