JACKSON, Miss.- Belhaven's men's tennis split two matches on Saturday against Tougaloo and Delta State. The Blazers defeated Tougaloo 9-0, but fell to Delta State 7-2. The Green and Gold are now 3-3 on the season.
In the first match against Tougaloo, Sebastian Barrientos and Ivan Alberto Kerkoc won 8-0 at the No. 1 doubles spot. Tracy Hilaire and Rajit Rohaan made their Belhaven season debut at No. 2 doubles, as the duo were victorious 8-1. Grant Matherne and Trevor Ramagos rolled at No. 3 doubles, 8-0.
The Blazers dominated singles play as well. Rene Ramos cruised at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win. Kerkoc took care of business 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Hilaire won his first singles match of the year with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 3.
Devonte Thomas won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, while Matherne won his first singles match of the year as well with a 6-1, 6-0 win. Yann Kaufman also played in his first match of 2017 at No. 6 singles. Kaufman won easily 6-2, 6-1.
Against Delta State, the Blazers quickly fell behind 2-1 after doubles play. Ramos and Joan Soler were the only doubles pair to tally a win, as they held on 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.
Ramos improved to 6-0 in singles play with a solid 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles.
Delta State would win the next five singles matches throughout the afternoon as the Blazers were unable to rally.
Belhaven will be back in action on Thursday at home against Millsaps at 2 p.m.
