JACKSON, Miss. - Belhaven University softball hosts Huntingdon College for a doubleheader on Tuesday at 1 p.m. before welcoming American Southwest Conference (ASC) foe Texas Dallas this weekend for a three-game series. The Blazers will play UTD in a single game on Friday at 2 p.m., and will finish out the series on Saturday with a doubleheader at 12 p.m.
Belhaven (0-7) is still searching for its first win of the 2017 season after dropping a three-game series to No. 1 Texas-Tyler over the weekend. Six of the Blazers first seven games have been against opponents ranked in the top five of NCAA Division III.Â
Junior third baseman
Makayla Reed went 5-for-7 at the plate versus UT Tyler, recording multi-hit efforts in the final two games of the series. Reed is now hitting a team-high .421 with a .450 on-base percentage.Â
Senior first baseman
Crystal Kehtel hit her first home run of the season in the series finale at UT Tyler, smacking a solo shot in the second inning.Â
Senior pitcher
Taylor Surrento tallied a career-high nine strikeouts versus crosstown rival Millsaps last week, allowing just one earned run in seven innings pitched. Surrento ranks seventh in the ASC this season with 16 strikeouts.Â
HuntingdonÂ
Huntingdon (0-6) will also be looking for their first victory of the season. The Hawks have lost home doubleheaders to Berry, Mt. St. Joseph and Texas Lutheran to start the season.Â
Junior outfielder Lindsey Selph leads Huntingdon with a .333 batting average and four RBI. Junior pitcher Raina Lanier has tallied a 4.98 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 19.2 innings pitched.Â
Huntingdon finished the 2016 season with a 17-21 overall mark and an 11-9 record in the USA South.Â
Texas DallasÂ
Texas Dallas is off to a 10-1 start this season and has won its past five games. The Comets are coming off of a three-game sweep of ASC opponent Hardin-Simmons over the weekend. UTD outscored Hardin-Simmons 26-2 over the course of the series.Â
Sophomore outfielder Melissa Livermore ranks third in the ASC in hits (16) and has recorded a .485 batting average. Freshman Jessica Vlasek is hitting .385 with two home runs and nine RBI.Â
As a team, the Comets are batting .336 with a .507 slugging percentage, and are averaging 7.1 runs per game.Â
Senior pitcher Lauren McLeod leads the ASC with six wins on the mound while sophomore Allie Stephens ranks fourth in the conference with a 0.67 ERA.Â
UTD took two of three from Belhaven in Richardson, Texas last season.Â
