JACKSON, Miss. - It took only 90 pitches for
Tyler Wolfe to shut down McMurry's offense in the rubber match of this weekend's three-game series as the Belhaven baseball team shutout the War Hawks, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon from Smith-Wills Stadium.
Wolfe and McMurry starter Mike Gonzales were in a scoreless pitcher's duel through five innings.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Blazers finally dented the scoreboard.
JG Miley led off the frame with a double. Following a
Ty Dean strikeout and a
Terrell Hodges walk,
Stephen Sexton grounded into a fielder's choice, and a McMurry (2-4) error plated Miley.
BU (4-1) added two key insurance runs in the eighth on a two-run RBI double by Dean, where Miley and
Reed Bolton scored.
Miley and Bolton each recorded two hits for the Blazers, while Miley scored two runs for the Green and Gold.
Wolfe (2-0), in his second career start with the Green and Gold, allowed seven hits and strikeouts each on 90 pitches in the complete game shutout.
The Blazers will next host Millsaps in the first game of the Cowboy Maloney Series. First pitch from Smith-Wills is slated for 4 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
