Men’s Tennis Falls 7-2 to Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Belhaven men's tennis team fell by a score of 7-2 on Friday afternoon in Memphis to Rhodes College.

With the loss, the Blazers now slip to 0-2 on the year. The Green and Gold dropped their first match of the season last Friday at home to Mobile, 8-1.

Rene Ramos and Joan Soler won at the No. 1 doubles position 9-7. Belhaven fell in both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles by scores of 8-0, and 8-4. Travous Wilson and Judson Watson played in the second slot for the Blazers, while Ivan Alberto Kerkoc and Sebastian Barrientos played in the third doubles position.

In singles play, Ramos was the lone Blazer to tally a victory. Ramos improved to 2-0 in singles play after taking care of business at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-3.

Kerkoc fell at No. 2 singles, 6-4 6-0, while Barrientos faltered 6-0, 6-0 in the third singles spot. Soler battled hard at No. 4 but ultimately lost the match 6-3, 6-4.

Owen Taylor fell at No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-1, and Claudio Adolfssen dropped No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-0.

Belhaven will return to action tomorrow morning against Huntingdon College before traveling to New Albany, Miss. to face Blue Mountain College later on in the afternoon. The first match will begin at 9 a.m, with the second match beginning at 3 p.m.
