Tennis Preview: Rhodes, Huntingdon and Blue Mountain

JACKSON, MISS. – Belhaven's men's and women's tennis will partake in three matches on the road this weekend. First, the Blazers travel to Memphis to face Rhodes on Friday at 4 pm. On Saturday, Belhaven will play Huntingdon in Memphis at 9 a.m., and then travel to New Albany, Miss. to face off against Blue Mountain College at 3 p.m.

Belhaven's men's tennis is coming off an 8-1 loss to Mobile at home in their season-opener.

Rhodes is currently 3-0 on the season. The Lynx defeated Bethel (TN), Spring Hill, and the Ozarks.

Huntingdon College will play their first matches this weekend against Christian Brothers and the Blazers.

In the final match of the weekend, Blue Mountain comes into play with an overall record of 2-1. The Toppers posted wins over Centenary and Tougaloo, while dropping a match to Millsaps.

For Belhaven, Rene Ramos at No. 1 singles was the lone Blazer to come away with a victory last week against Mobile.

On the women's side, the Blazers' fell 6-3 to Mobile in their first match of the season. Ivanna Echezuria and Natalia Lopez tabbed the lone victory in doubles action for the Green and Gold, picking up a win the No. 1 doubles slot. Belhaven fell in both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions, 8-2 and 8-5, respectively.

In singles play, the Blazers posted wins at both the No. 2 and No. 4 positions. Echezuria registered a decisive 6-1, 6-2 victory, while Mary Lichlyter collected a solid 6-4, 6-4 win.

Rhodes' women's team is also a perfect 3-0 on the year, with victories over Bethel, Spring Hill, and the Ozarks. Huntingdon will play their first match of the season on Saturday against the Blazers.

Blue Mountain College is also a perfect 2-0 on the year with wins over both Centenary and Tougaloo.
