JACKSON, Miss. - Playing against crosstown rival Millsaps for the first time in nearly ten years, the Belhaven softball team was unable to come away with a victory, falling to the Majors 2-0 Wednesday afternoon at McLeod Field.
Despite recording just three hits, Belhaven left a total of 11 runners on base. The Blazers placed runners in scoring position in every inning but the fifth and seventh, but were unable to bring any of them around to score.
Millsaps got on the board in the top of the second as Kaitlyn Casias drove in Hannah Smith from third with a single to right.
The Majors added an insurance run in the fifth when Kendall Carder reached home on a fielder's choice hit to the shortstop.
Senior outfielder
Hannah Holloway totaled two of the Blazers hits, while junior outfielder
Kaitlyn Blubaugh collected the third Belhaven hit.
Senior pitcher
Taylor Surrento tallied a career-high nine strikeouts, allowing just four hits and one earned run in seven innings.
Cassidy DeNoon picked up the win in the circle for Millsaps, surrendering one hit and no runs in four innings. Hannah Davidson tossed the final three innings to earn the save.
Next up, the Green and Gold travels to Tyler, Texas this weekend for a three-game series against No. 1 Texas-Tyler.
