TYLER, Texas - The Belhaven Volleyball team traveled to Tyler, Texas Friday to take on the UT Tyler Patriots in what was their second meeting of the season. In the two teams previous matchup against each other, the Blazers were able to win in 5 sets in what was a thrilling victory for the green and gold.
In today's rematch, UT Tyler would strike first with a 25-14 win in the first set. The Blazers kept pace with the Patriots early on with the score staying close at 12-11. However, UT Tyler ripped off 10 consecutive points as they were able to control the rest of the set.
In set two, the Blazers once again were able to keep things close as the two teams started off tied at 15 a piece. The Blazers were able to get the go ahead point to take a 16-15 lead, unfortunately, the Patriots would not be denied as they were able to once again get the momentum shifted back in their favor and go on to win set two by a score of 25-21.
UT Tyler came out in set three with 6 straight points to take the early lead 6-0. The Blazers would finally stop the run with a point of their own, however this rematch was UT Tyler's as they would go on to win set three 25-10 to take the win on the night.
For the Blazers, Senior Kelly Aholt led the team with 21 assists, 9 digs, 2 kills, and 1 block on the night. Bekah Williams finished with a team high 7 kills along with 4 digs, and 1 block.
Sydney McEachern continued her season leading total for digs with 18 digs in the match. Blaykleigh Smythe finished tied for second on the team tonight with 6 kills along with Ryan Hardin. Hope Tourney posted 3 blocks on the night.
With the loss, the Lady Blazers fall to 11-8 overall and 6-3 in the American Southwest Conference. UT Tyler improved to 14-4 overall and 7-2 in ASC play. Belhaven (11-8) will continue their road schedule tomorrow in Richardson, Texas as they will take on UT Dallas (13-4) at 2:00 p.m.
