COLUMBUS, Miss – The Belhaven men's soccer team cruised to a 7-3 victory over in-state opponent Mississippi University for Women Saturday afternoon in Columbus, Miss.
The Blazers dominated the Owls in every category, firing 27 total shots while allowing MUW to get off just seven shots. The Green and Gold reached double digits in the shots on goal section for the first time this season, collecting 21 shots on goal.
Ian Requilman got things started for the Blazers, finding the back of the net in just three minutes into action. Jonathan Lopez would then score in the 20
th minute to tie the match up at 1-1.
John Dunbar made it 2-1 in favor of the Blazers in the 24
th minute to round out the scoring for the first half.
Micah Taylor scored within the first two minutes of the second half to bring the score 3-1.
Somto Ngwudike assisted Taylor's goal.
The Owls would respond with a goal of their own in the 49
th minute of the contest, off of an assist from Paxton Bounds to make the score 3-2.
The Green and Gold would then score a team goal in the 51
st minute, and
Ryan Thomas notched the Blazers fifth goal of the game in the 54
th minute.
MUW rounded out their scoring off of a team goal in the 66
th minute of action.
Alex Hale scored the sixth goal for the Blazers in the 77
th minute.
Nathan Ratzlaff would score the final goal for the Green and Gold with the assist by Alex hale.
Somto Ngwudike led Belhaven with five shots, while
Alex Hale had four shots in the contest.
Goalkeeper
Thomas Blake recorded three saves in the match.
With the win, the Blazers are now 2-6-5 overall and 1-4-2 in American Southwest Conference play.
Belhaven will return to action on the road in Longview, Texas to face off against LeTourneau University. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
