Cutler’s Overtime Goal Lifts Blazers past LETU

LONGVIEW, Texas. – The Belhaven University men's soccer team defeated LeTourneau University in overtime by the score of 3-2 in American Southwest Conference play Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Yellowjackets found the back of the net first in the 18th minute when Varney Carter scored a goal to give LeTourneau a 1-0 lead.
- A free kick would be sent into the box where Alex Hale would head the ball home in the 42nd minute to even the match at 1-1.
- Belhaven and LeTourneau would go into intermission tied 1-1.
- In the 54th minute, Ryan Thomas would get the go-ahead goal, while Somto Ngwudike assisted on the goal to give the Blazers a 2-1 advantage.
- In the 66th minute, the Yellowjackets earned a corner kick that would eventually go in the goal but was called off because of an offsides penalty.
- LeTourneau would earn a free kick in the 78th minute, but keeper Thomas Blake saved it. The Yellowjackets would get the rebound off the save and David Trost fired a shot into the back of the net to even the game up at 2-2.
- Just before the end of regulation, Somto Ngwedike would fire a shot, but it would be wide right to keep the score 2-2 to go into overtime.
- The Blazers would get the ball and with one minute into overtime; Jack Cutler would knock home the game-winning goal, off of an assist by Ryan Thomas.

KEY STATISTICS
- In the match, there were a total of 28 shots. Belhaven had 14 shots, with nine of them being on goal. The Green and Gold had five shots in the first period, eight shots in the second period, and one shot in overtime.
- Ryan Thomas led the Blazers with four total shots, with all four being on goal and one goal. Jack Cutler tallied three total shots, with two being on goal and one goal.

Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. Belhaven will return to the Belhaven Bowl Stadium and host UT-Tyler on Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. The season finale will be played on Homecoming weekend Oct. 28 at 1:30 p.m.
