LAGRANGE, Ga. - Belhaven women's soccer picked up its first win of the 2016 season Thursday evening, earning a 2-1 road victory over LaGrange College.
Despite outshooting the Panthers 11-2 in the first half, the Blazers found themselves in a 1-0 hole heading into the halftime break. Sydney Aronson scored on a penalty kick in the 41st minute to give LaGrange a one-goal advantage.
Belhaven continued to pepper the Panthers with shots in the second half and evened the score in the 58th minute as junior midfielder
Amber Thomas scored an unasisted goal.
Just over twenty minutes later, junior forward
Jessica Mahoney found the back of the net for the Blazers, giving the Green and Gold a 2-1 lead. Thomas assisted on the game-winning goal.
Belhaven finished with 21 total shots and 11 shots on goal while LaGrange recorded just six shots and two on goal. Mahoney had nine shots to lead the Blazers while Thomas and
Savannah Raines totaled three shots on goal each.
Belhaven moves to 1-2 on the season with tonight's win and will now have a week off from play before traveling to Austin, Texas on Sept. 16 to begin conference play versus Concordia Texas.
