Belhaven Drops ASC Tilt with East Texas Baptist

JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven volleyball team showed great stamina in the final two sets of the match against East Texas Baptist, but the Tigers were victorious with a 3-0 sweep of the Blazers Friday night inside Rugg Arena. 

Belhaven (6-10) committed nine errors in the first set, but the Blazers made adjustments following the set. The Green and Gold only committed five errors and killed 27 attacks for a .281 attacking percentage. 

After a 25-14 loss, the Blazers and Tigers went back and forth with a 25-23 loss and a impressive third set that saw the Tigers (3-9) triumphant with the 31-29 victory to sweep the contest. 

Blaykleigh Smythe led the Green and Gold with 16 kills and three blocks. The Phoenix, Ariz. native finished with 35 attacks on two errors for a .400 attacking percentage. 

Jackie Gunderson finished with 13 digs and six kills, while Abbey Herman totaled 11 digs. 

Hope Tourney continues her dominance in her freshman campaign, totaling seven kills on 18 attacks, while committing two errors (.278 attacking percentage). 

Kelly Aholt added 35 assists to her season total, and she also tallied nine digs.

As a team, the Blazers recorded a .207 attacking percentage, while committing 14 errors. 

Mallory Sanders recorded 14 kills, 13 digs and two blocks, while Britni Mosher also had two blocks to go along with 12 kills for ETBU.

The Green and Gold return to the court Saturday to continue ASC East play with LeTourneau. First serve is set for 5 p.m. inside Rugg Arena.
