JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 double overtime loss to the Birmingham-Southern Panthers Saturday afternoon at H.T. Newell Field.
Birmingham-Southern's McKenna Boyd scored the game-winning goal with just 13 seconds remaining in the second overtime period.
After a scoreless first half that featured just four shots on goal between the two teams, Felicity Barnett found the back of the net for the Panthers in the 52nd minute to give Birmingham-Southern a 1-0 advantage.
Seven minutes later Belhaven freshman midfielder
Alex Trammel scored her first collegiate goal, slotting a shot into the right corner of the goal off of an assist from
Dominique Farias.
The Blazers totaled eight shots (five on goal) while the Panthers recorded 13 shots (nine on goal).
Erica Rempel led Belhaven with three shots. Trammel and
Savannah Raines added two shots each.
Alexis McDonald made seven saves in goal for the Blazers.
Belhaven drops to 0-2 on the season with today's loss while Birmingham-Southern moves to 2-0.
Next up, the Blazers travel to LaGrange, Ga. on Thursday, Sept. 8 to take on LaGrange College. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
