ALPINE, Texas - The Belhaven women's soccer team suffered a 3-1 defeat to Sul Ross State Thursday afternoon in Alpine, Texas.
A plethora of shots were fired by both sides, with the Blazers recording 19 totals shots and the Lobos totaling 23 shots. A total of 18 shots were recorded between the two teams in the first half of play, yet the only goal scored came just a minute and a half before the halftime whistle, as Lauren Ebbs gave Sul Ross State a 1-0 advantage.
The Blazers (3-6) would find the equalizing goal just two minutes into the second half when
Jessica Mahoney scored on a penalty kick. The goal was Mahoney's fifth of the season.
The Lobos (3-4-1) would counter, however, as Hailey Pace found the back of the net in 57th minute, putting Belhaven in a 2-1 hole. Ebbs scored her second goal of the game in the 86th minute to stretch the Lobos' lead to two goals.
Mahoney led the Blazers with seven total shots and four shots on goal.
Reagan Hern tallied a season-high two shots on goal.
Alexis McDonald faced a torrent of shots in goal for the Green and Gold, and came up with a season-high 11 saves.
Belhaven returns home for its next match, taking on LeTourneau University on Thursday, Oct. 6 in the brand-new Belhaven Bowl Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
