JACKSON, Miss. - Belhaven women's soccer dropped its Belhaven Bowl Stadium opener, 2-1, to LeTourneau University Thursday evening.Â
Kennedy Keer and Tamara Martin scored for the Yellow Jackets in the 16th and 22nd minute, respectively, to give LeTourneau a quick 2-0 lead.Â
After being outshot 10-3 in the first half, the Blazers came out on the attack in the second half. Freshman forward
Erica Rempel notched her fourth goal of the season three minutes into the half to bring Belhaven to within a goal of the Yellow Jackets.
Jessica Mahoney sent a long pass forward to Rempel near the top of the 18-yard box, and Rempel fired a low shot into the left corner of the goal.Â
Though the Blazers held the Yellow Jackets scoreless in the second half, the Green and Gold was unable to find a tying goal.Â
Belhaven finished with six total shots and four shots on goal while LeTourneau recorded 14 total shots and seven shots on goal.Â
Mahoney led the Blazers with three total shots while Rempel fired two shots.Â
Belhaven drops to 3-7 with the loss while LeTourneau improves to 4-5-1 with the win.
Next up, the Blazers host East Texas Baptist in Belhaven Bowl Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 8. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.Â
