RIDGELAND, Miss. - The Belhaven women's soccer team earned a 3-0 shutout win over McMurry University Saturday afternoon at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland, Miss.
Jessica Mahoney got the Blazers on the board in the 38th minute, scoring on a penalty kick after
Erica Rempel was fouled inside the 18-yard box.
Freshman forward
Catherine Waggonner scored her first goal as a member of the Blazers in the 51st minute, striking a shot from 15 yards out into the top right corner of the net after receiving a pass from Rempel.
Rempel got a goal of her own in the 74th minute, rounding out the scoring for Belhaven.
Rachyl Sutton assisted the Rempel goal.
Belhaven recorded 24 total shots and 16 shots on goal, both of which are season-highs. Mahoney totaled a team-high seven shots while Rempel fired five shots.
The Blazers defense held McMurry to just three total shots and two shots on goal. Belhaven goalkeeper
Alexis McDonald collected her first shutout of the season.
Belhaven improves to 2-5 on the season with the win while the War Hawks fall to 1-7 with the loss.
