AUSTIN, Texas - The Belhaven volleyball team were defeated by Hardin-Simmons and Mary Hardin-Baylor Friday afternoon at the Concordia Fieldhouse on the campus of Concordia University Texas in the ASC Crossover Challenge.
In the opener, the Blazers battled with Hardin-Simmons, but fell to the Cowgirls, 3-1 (14-25, 25-18, 17-25, 24-26).Â
In the first set, each team recorded two errors apiece, but Hardin-Simmons out-attacked Belhaven 49-33 in the match, even with 19 committed errors by the Green and Gold.Â
Blaykleigh Smythe and
Hope Tourney led the Blazers with eight kills each.
Abbey Herman totaled 23 digs, while
Jackie Gunderson finished with 20 digs and seven kills.Â
Kelly Aholt had 28 assists, six digs and two service aces.Â
Grace Schulz led the Cowgirls with 14 kills, six blocks and five service aces.Â
In the second match, the Blazers were outdueled  by the Crusaders of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 3-0 (12-25, 18-25, 17-25).Â
The Crusaders recorded a .364 attacking percentage on the night, while allowing the Blazers to only 22 kills for the match.Â
Gunderson led the Blazers in the nightcap with six kills and totaled seven digs. She finished with 13 kills and 27 digs on the day.Â
Aholt's 18 assists in the second match puts her with 46 assists in both matches for the Green and Gold (6-8).Â
Sarah Paolini totaled 12 kills for Mary Hardin-Baylor in the win.Â
The Blazers will look to salvage the final match in first ASC Crossover of the season on Saturday against Howard Payne.Â
