Blazers Outlasted by Cowboys

JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys Thursday night at H.T. Newell Field.

Hardin-Simmons scored twice in a five-minute span late in the second half to erase Belhaven's 1-0 lead and come away with the win.

Somto Ngwudike gave the Blazers a one-goal lead 32 minutes into the first half, scoring his first career collegiate goal. Alex Hale had the assist on Ngwudike's goal.

Tonight's match was full of physical play but short on offensive opportunity. Hardin-Simmons recorded just seven total shots and three corner kicks while Belhaven totaled six shots and one corner kick. A combined 22 fouls were called on both teams.

Nicolas Cornejo tallied a game-high three shots while Ryan Thomas and Ngwudike each collected a shot on goal.

Belhaven drops to 1-4-1 with the loss while Hardin-Simmons improves to 4-2.

Next up, the Blazers host McMurry University on Saturday.
