TYLER, Texas - The Belhaven volleyball team dropped its American Southwest Conference opener to Texas Tyler, 3-1 (12-25, 25-18, 8-25, 9-25) Friday night at the Louise Herrington Patriot Center.
The Blazers (5-5) started cold out of the gate, but rebounded in the second set. Belhaven notched 11 kills on six errors, while the Patriots (8-2) recorded seven errors in the 25-18 victory for the Green and Gold heading into the third set.
However, the final two sets were unfavorable for the Blazers, as they only totaled 17 points on 18 costly errors.
Jackie Gunderson led the Green and Gold in kills with eight, while
Blaykleigh Smythe added seven kills. Both also notched two blocks each.
Kelly Aholt assisted on 22 attacks, while
Abbey Herman led the Blazers with 28 digs.
Samantha Lee totaled 13 kills, and Emily Robison added 19 digs for the Patriots in the win.
The Green and Gold will next travel to 11th-ranked Texas Dallas Saturday afternoon.
