LONGVIEW, Texas – Belhaven Softball swept the series from LeTourneau on Saturday with a 9-3 win over the Yellowjackets.
Belhaven (28-6) tacked on single runs in the first and second innings to take the early 2-0 lead. After an error by LeTourneau (17-20) and a
Hannah Holloway single,
Carly Yasses brought the first run home on a sacrifice fly.
In the second, the Blazers' second run of the contest came with two outs. With two runners on,
Dani Craft bought
Crystal Kehtel home on a fielding error.
LeTourneau responded with two runs to tie the contest at two after two innings of play, but the Blazers struck back with two runs in the third and seven total unanswered runs for the rest of the contest.
After a
Makenzie Hawkins leadoff single, Yasses scored her second RBI of the contest with a double to center field, scoring Hawkins, Yasses moved to third on a throwing error.
Taylor Surrento scored the Blazers' fourth run of the contest with a sacrifice fly.
Belhaven added two more insurance runs each in the fifth and sixth innings. After a single by Hawkins, she was sent to second via a throwing error. Yasses delivered her third RBI of the afternoon with a single. After two outs were recorded,
Taylor O'Dell doubled home Yasses. Belhaven led 6-2 through five.
In the sixth,
Savannah Lyon, who pitch hit for Surrento, doubled to left field to bring both
Meg Garton and Hawkins in for two runs to lead 8-2.
Belhaven scored their ninth run of the contest in the seventh. After a single, walk, strikeout and pass ball,
Megan Goss scored
Toni Wilson from third base.
The Yellowjackets scored a run in the seventh in the Blazers 9-4 victory.
Carly Yasses finished the day perfect at the plate with three hits, three RBIs and two runs scored.
Surrento (6-3) went the distance, allowed three runs on four hits, while walking four and striking out five batters on 118 pitches.
Belhaven will wrap up the regular season at home next weekend, as the Blazers host Mary Hardin-Baylor beginning Friday afternoon at Jim McLeod Field.
