JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven baseball team fell in a doubleheader on Saturday at Smith-Wills Stadium to the Sul Ross State Lobos, 3-1 and 12-6.
In game one, two Sul Ross home runs in the third inning off of starter
Stephen Solomon (1-2), plating three runs, would be all of the offense for the Lobos.
The Blazers' lone run came in the bottom of the sixth, when
Terrell Hodges plated
James Peterson, who reached on a fielding error.
The Blazers would attempt to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, but left runners at second and third to end the first game of the doubleheader.
In game two, the Lobos (7-6, 2-1) started with two runs in the third, but the Blazers (6-4, 1-2) came back and answered with two to tie the contest. With
Dane Gecina and Peterson at second, Hodges tripled to bring the runners home.
After that, Sul Ross outscored the Blazers 10-3 in the final six innings to sweep the doubleheader.
Tanner Moulder (1-1) would only last three and two-thirds innings, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits.
Hodges finished a home run shy of the cycle in the second game, going 4-for-7 in the doubleheader with two triples and three RBIs.
Belhaven will next prepare for its next conference series against Howard Payne. The three-game series from Brownwood, Texas begins with a single game on Friday at 2 p.m.
