ABILENE, Texas – The Belhaven Blazers Softball team picked up their 13th consecutive victory on Friday, as they capped off a series sweep of Sul Ross State with a 12-3 victory.
Savannah Lyon helped the Blazers jump out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first with a three-run homerun to right field.
Makenzie Hawkins and
Carly Yasses had back-to-back hits prior to Lyon's third long ball of the season.
Dani Craft, who scored the first run of the game, put the Blazers up 5-0 in the second with an RBI base hit to score
Crystal Kehtel.
In the third,
Taylor O'Dell hit the Blazers second homer of the game, a two-run shot to right field.
Craft followed it up later in the inning with a two-RBI single up the middle to score
Brooke Laigast and Kehtel, giving the Blazers a 9-0.
After Sul Ross scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the third, the teams were scoreless until the sixth inning, when O'Dell hit an RBI groundout to score
Savannah Johnston.
In the seventh inning,
Carly Yasses hit an RBI double to left center, scoring
Meg Garton for the Blazers 11
th run of the game.
Megan Goss capped off the scoring with a single later in the inning to score Yasses.
Taylor Surrento started the game for the Blazers, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing three hits while striking out six.
Julienne Broussard picked up her 10th win of the season after Surrento didn't qualify with the minimum number of innings pitched. Broussard recorded five strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched.
Lauren Feagin wrapped up the game with two strikeouts in a scoreless seventh inning.
The Blazers return to action on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Rust College. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Jim McLeod Field.
