MARSHALL, Texas - The Belhaven Blazers fell to East Texas Baptist on Friday afternoon at Woods Field, as the Blazers are swept by ETBU in the three-game series, 4-3 and 9-1.
In game one of the twin bill, East Texas Baptist striked first in the bottom half of the first inning with a sacrifice fly to give the Tigers a early 1-0 lead.
In the next half inning, the Blazers'
Adam Kowalczyk and
Trey Eschberger gave the Green and Gold their first lead of the series. Kowalczyk started the inning with a solo home run to left center to tie the game at one. Eschberger followed with a single to left field. After
Will Mullen reached on an error, during
Tee Payne's at bat, Mullen stole second as the throw went wide of the covering Tiger second baseman. Eschberger scored easily from third to give the Blazers the 2-1 advantage.
In the third inning, Belhaven would tack on another run.
Jacob Byrd doubled down the left fleld line. With two outs, Kowalczyk delivered his second RBI of the contest with a single to left, scoring Byrd.
The Tigers came back in the bottom half of the third with two runs to tie the game at three apiece.
The score would remain tied until the fifth inning, when ETBU homered in the frame to seal the contest and the series.
Zach Osha (0-2) went the distance in the opening game of the doubleheader, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in six innings pitched.
In game two, the Blazers (13-8, 4-5) were down again to the Tigers (16-8, 7-5), as ETBU scored first in the bottom of the third.
In the fourth, Belhaven answered with a run to tie the game at one apiece. Byrd started ithe inning with a leadoff single. After a fielder's choice and a stolen base for
Terrell Hodges, Eschberger came through for the Green and Gold with a single to score Hodges.
However, ETBU responded once again in the fourth with two runs to retake the lead for good. The Tigers aded three in the fifth one in the sixth and two in the eighth to pad the lead to 9-1.
Shane Brown (1-2) went four and two-thirds innings for Belhaven, allowed three earned runs on five hits and four walks with four strikeouts.
Hodges' 14-game hitting was snapped in game one, and
Daniel Ammirati's 14-game on-base streak was snapped in game two.
Belhaven will return home to travel up Riverside Drive to take on Millsaps in the first game of a back-to-back. First pitch will be on Tuesday at 6 p.m. from Twenty Field.
