ABILENE, Texas – The Belhaven Blazers picked up a doubleheader sweep of Sul Ross State University in ASC play on Thursday, winning 8-0 and 8-3 to improve the winning streak to 12 games.
Julienne Broussard (8-2) picked up the win in game one, setting a career high with 12 strikeouts in a shutout victory. Broussard allowed just two hits without a walk.
Dani Craft had two hits and a walk in game one to lead the effort. The Blazers capitalized on eight errors by the Lobos.
Savannah Lyon and
Haley Yasses had the other hits for the Blazers in the game.
Makenzie Hawkins,
Crystal Kehtel and
Mary Austin Barber all had walks.
The Blazers scored three in the first with a run in the third to go up 4-0. Belhaven would then add two in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Carly Yasses,
Savannah Lyon and
Haley Yasses had the three RBIs for the Blazers.
The bats came alive for the Blazers in game two, as Belhaven reeled off 13 hits. Hawkins,
Haley Yasses and
Jordan Herring all had RBIs for the Blazers in a four-run first inning.
Carly Yasses then hit a two-run homerun to start a three run inning in the second.
Barber would add a sacrifice fly in the sixth for the final Blazers run.
Craft and
Haley Yasses each had two hits in the game. In total, 11 Blazers had hits in the second game.
Haley Yasses led the Blazers with three RBIs in the game.
Herring (4-1) picked up the win, giving up just one earned run in six innings. Herring allowed four hits and two walks, while striking out four.
Lauren Feagin also tossed and inning, giving up one run on one hit and one walk.
Belhaven will look to complete the sweep of the series on Friday with the third and final game at noon.
