MARSHALL, Texas - The Belhaven Baseball team dropped the opening game of the three-game series against East Texas Baptist 7-2 from Woods Field on Thursday night.
Belhaven (13-6, 4-3) was down 3-0 in the fifth inning before the Blazers scored their only runs of the game to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Daniel Ammirati started the frame with a leadoff walk, extending his on-base streak to 13 games.
Gabe Veith followed with a double, which placed runners at second and third for
JG Miley. Miley brought Ammirati home from third with a sacrifice fly.
Dane Gecina stroked a double down the right field line to bring in Veith.
However, in the bottom half of the inning, East Texas Baptist (14-8, 5-5) scored four times to extend the lead to 7-2, which would hold for the remainder of the contest.
Terrell Hodges went 1-for-4 on the night, extending his hitting streak to 14 games.
Tanner Moulder (3-2) started for the Blazers and went four and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs (five earned) on nine hits and three walks while striking out six.
Richard Richardson finished the game out for the Green and Gold, going the final three and one-third innings, allowing one hit and struck out three.
Belhaven will return to action on Friday, as they wrap up the series with a doubleheader against East Texas Baptist beginning at 1 p.m.
