RICHARDSON, Texas - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team fell to the University of Texas at Dallas 55-70 on Saturday afternoon at the UTD Activity Center.
Jacinda Smith, who finished one block shy of a triple-double in the game, led the Blazers in points, rebounds and blocks. Smith finished with 17 points, one of three Blazers in double figures.
Smith also collected 11 of Belhaven's 44 rebounds in the game.
However, the big stat of the night was the blocks, where the senior from Jackson, Mississippi broke the school record for blocks in a single game, finishing with nine in the contest, one more than
TaShayla Steede's previous record of eight last season.
Smith had five blocks in the first quarter and added four more over the final 30 minutes to re-write the record books for the Green-and-Gold.
Sierra Pittman had a strong second half for the Blazers, scoring 11 points en route to a 13-point game. Pittman also finished with five assists to lead the team, and added three rebounds, a block and an assist.
Candler Gregory also finished in double figures for the Blazers, scoring 14 points with four rebounds and two steals. Gregory hit four three pointers in the contest, extending her streak with at least one three pointer to 21 games.
Ieshia Dixon and
Kyra Washington also finished with two blocks each, giving the Blazers a new school record with 14 total blocks in the game. The previous record was 13, on the same day as Steede's eight, which came against Rust College on January 20, 2015.
The Blazers will return home for the first of their final two games at Rugg Arena this season with its game on Thursday. Belhaven will tip off against the University of Texas at Tyler at 5:30 p.m.
