RICHARDSON, Texas - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team dropped a tightly contested ASC East battle at the University of Texas at Dallas 78-86 on Saturday.
The Blazers jumped out to a 7-point lead early, part of a 58 percent shooting first half, but were matched by the Comets, who took a lead late in the first half.
Belhaven shot 50 percent in the second half, but were unable to match UT-Dallas from behind the arc and the Comets were able to stay ahead of the Blazers for the remainder of the contest.
Josh Carpenter led the Blazers with 25 points in the contest, including a pair of threes. Carpenter also had four rebounds and three assists.
Josh Gaskin picked up his second straight double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds in the game. Gaskin was busy all around, gathering four assists, as well as two blocks and a steal in 37 minutes.
DaJuan Young joined Carpenter and Gaskin in double figures. Young had a career night, as he finished with 19 points, including five three pointers, in 33 minutes, all career highs for the junior.
Young also had four assists, three rebounds, two steals and a block in a game.
The Blazers will return home for the first of their final two games at Rugg Arena this season with its game on Thursday. Belhaven will tip off against the University of Texas at Tyler at 7:30 p.m.
