JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven Men's Basketball team was unable to maintain its hot start Thursday night, falling to the University of Texas at Tyler, 85-93 in ASC East action.
The Blazers connected on their first seven shots from the floor and jumped out to as much as an eight point lead. However, the Green and Gold were unable to slow down the Patriots highflying offense.
De'la Mayers led the Blazers and shared the game high with 27 points in the contest. Mayers was 11-of-13 from the floor and also grabbed three rebounds and a block.
Josh Gaskin and
Dyron Anderson also were in double figures for the Blazers. Gaskin finished with 19 points, three rebounds, two assists and a block.
Anderson had 13 points and also dished out three assists and recorded a steal.
John Loris finished with a career-high nine points in the game, while
DaJuan Young led the Blazers with five rebounds.
Jack Griffiths led the team with five assists.
The Blazers will wrap up their 2015-16 home schedule on Saturday with senior night at Rugg Arena against LeTourneau University. Tip off is set for 3 p.m. against the Yellow Jackets.
