JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven Blazers Men's Tennis team split its two matches this weekend, defeating Christian Brothers University 9-0 before falling to the University of Texas at Tyler 0-9.
 
The Blazers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead against Christian Brothers in doubles play. Gabriel Da Costa and Tomas Ojeda had the closest of the matches, defeating Eric Mueller and Nick Wiseman 8-4.
 
Da Costa also had a close match in singles action against Wiseman, needing to win a 10-7 tiebreaker to take the point 2-6, 6-2 (10-7).
 
Rafael Siqueira also had a tiebreaker third set to defeat Eric Mueller 6-1, 6-7, (11-9).  The rest of the Blazers cruised to more comfortable match wins in the match against the Buccaneers.
 
However, Belhaven struggled against UT Tyler on Saturday, falling 9-0 to the ASC opponent.
 
Pawel Tarasewicz and Siqueira had the closest doubles match, falling to Joey Fischer and Pablo Gomez 8-6.
 
While the match looked lopsided, Ojeda, Rene Ramos, and Omar Lopez all fell in third set tiebreakers in their singles matches. Ramos had perhaps the closest battle, winning 6-2 before falling 4-6 and 10-12 in the third set.
 
Belhaven will return to action on March 5 with a match against Tougaloo College.
