MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Belhaven Baseball fell in its season opener on Tuesday, losing to the Huntingdon Hawks 25-0 at Neil Posey Field.
The Hawks (6-1) scored 19 runs in the first inning and had 22 players come to the plate. Belhaven (0-1) used five pitchers in the opening frame.
Shane Brown, who faced five batters, took the loss.
The best chance for the Blazers to break the shutout came in the third inning, when
Trey Eschberger started the inning with a walk, followed by a pass ball which advanced him to second base. After a walk by
Tee Payne and a sacrifice by
JG Miley, runners were at second and third when
Dane Gecina also drew a walk to load the bases to bring up
Terrell Hodges. The Blazers' chances would be cut short, as Hodges grounded into a double play to second.
Terrell Hodges,
Will Mullen and
Dane Gecina each recorded a hit in the loss.
The Blazers return to action on Friday night, when the Green and Gold head to Louisiana College for a three-game non-conference series. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
