NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Belhaven Men's Tennis team opened the 2016 season on Friday afternoon with an 8-1 victory over Loyola at the City Park Tennis Center.
The Blazers swept the Wolfpack in singles after dropping one of the three doubles matches.
Omar Lopez and
Rene Ramos defeated Maxime Rumeau and Sean Presti in No. 2 doubles 8-5, while
Harry Amor and
Pawel Tarasewicz won No. 3 doubles against David Mayhail and Federico Mercado 8-3.
Rafael Siqueira and
Ivan Alberto Kirkoc were forced into three sets against their opponents. In No. 1 singles, Siqueira defeated Steven Le 6-3, 4-6, 10-6. At the No. 6 position, Kirkoc bounced back against George Fourmaux 6-2, 0-6, 10-3.
Tomas Ojeda won at No. 2 singles against Rumeau 6-4, 6-1, while Tarasewicz defeated Ernesto de Diego from the No. 4 position 6-2, 6-1.
The Blazers return to Jackson for a road match against Jackson State on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
