AUSTIN, Texas - The Belhaven men's basketball team suffered a 144-97 loss to American Southwest Conference foe Concordia Texas Thursday night in Austin, Texas.
The Blazers shot 51.6 percent from the field and made 12 three-pointers in 24 attempts, but allowed the Tornados to shoot a scorching 69 percent from floor and 60 percent (12-20) from behind the arc.
Seven different Concordia players scored at least 11 points and the team's 144 points ties a single game program record. Joshua Samuels led the Tornados with 15 points on five three-pointers off the bench.
Brandon Pressley paced the Blazers with 22 points and 11 rebounds while converting 10 field goals in 15 attempts.
Dyron Anderson drained five three-pointers in seven attempts and recorded his second straight game scoring at least 20 points, finishing with 21.
Ron Davis chipped in 15 points for the Green and Gold while dishing out a team-high four assists.
Terik Richardson added 11 points on seven shots.
Belhaven stayed within striking distance of Concordia for most of the first half. Back-to-back three-pointers from Anderson and Richardson capped off an 8-0 run by the Blazers to bring the Green and Gold within six points of the Tornados with 9:58 remaining in the first half.
A quick 12-0 Concordia run over the next two minutes of play increased the Tornados lead to 18 points, but the Blazers responded with an 8-2 run of their own to make the score 42-30 with 5:48 left in the first half.
The Tornados, however, would pour in 20 points over the final five minutes of the half to take a 70-42 advantage into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Blazers were unable to trim Concordia's lead any lower than 25 points. Belhaven scorched the nets for 55 second-half points on 58 percent shooting but couldn't slow down the Tornados offensive attack.
With tonight's loss, Belhaven drops to 1-2 on the season while Concordia improves to 5-2.
Next up, the Blazers continue their Texas road trip on Saturday, traveling to Belton to face Mary Hardin-Baylor at 7:30 p.m.
