Belhaven Earns 5-0 Win Over Louisiana College

JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven men's soccer team scored four first-half goals en route to a 5-0 victory over ASC opponent Louisiana College Saturday evening inside Belhaven Bowl Stadium.

The Blazers dominated the Wildcats from end to end, firing 26 total shots while allowing Louisiana to get off just four shots. Belhaven reached double digit figures in the shots on goal category for the first time this season, recording 13 shots on frame.

Nathan Ratzlaff got the Blazers on the board first, firing in a shot from 15 yards out off of a cross from Ryan Thomas in the 26th minute.

Seven minutes later Kobe Van Someren found the back of the net twice in less than a minute of game time. The freshman first scored on a corner kick off the foot of Devin Little, heading in a shot from a few yards out after a redirecting header from Simon Gouabault. Fifty-three seconds later Van Someren beat a defender off the dribble and sent a scorching shot from 18-yards out near post past the Wildcats goalie's outstretched arms.

Senior Oliver Jones scored his first goal of the season in the 35th minute to give the Blazers a 4-0 lead.

Carmine Caruso netted his second goal of the year two minutes into the second half to round out the Belhaven scoring.

Van Someren, Caruso, Thomas and Somto Ngwudike paced the Green and Gold with three shots each. Sixteen different Blazers recorded at least one shot.

Josh Gates, Bailey Hart and Brett Cloud combined for a shutout in goal.

Belhaven has now won four of its past five games and improves its season record to 6-7-1.

Prior to tonight's match, members of TOPSoccer Mississippi (The Outreach Program for Soccer) participated in the international walkout with the Belhaven starting lineup. TOPSoccer is a national program designed and administered by US Youth Soccer. It is a community-based training and team placement program for children and adults with special needs. The Green and Gold returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 27 to face the University of Texas at Dallas inside Belhaven Bowl Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
