RICHARDSON, Texas - The Belhaven volleyball team took Concordia Texas to five sets, but were vanquished by the Tornados 3-2 (25-21, 17-25, 22-25, 25-22, 11-15) on the final day of the American Southwest Conference (ASC) Crossover on the campus of UT Dallas on Saturday.
The Blazers (8-15) rallied for 11 kills in the first set, but were out-killed by the Tornados (9-12) 33-14 in the second and third sets combined.
The Green and Gold rallied to take the fourth set, thanks to only three errors committed on attacks to Concordia's 10. However, in the fifth set, even though Belhaven totaled two errors, only six kills were made on attacks to CTX's 10.
In total, Concordia out-attacked the Blazers with 70 kills to 42, but the Blazers were ready on the attack, totaling 11 blocks in the contest, a new season high.
Hope Tourney assisted on 10 blocks, a new career high for the freshman, while adding three kills.
Blaykleigh Smythe racked up 13 kills on two errors committed (.379 attack percentage), while assisting on one block.
Annelle Anderson had five kills with six assisted blocks.
Lauren Whiting totaled 17 digs, while adding nine kills on the match.
Kelly Aholt had four block assists to go along with her 39 assists and three kills.
Abbey Herman dug out 28 of Concordia's attacks, while
Jackie Gunderson added 17.
Carly Custer led the Tornados with 18 kills and digs each, while Lexi Perez added 33 digs.
The Blazers remain on the road to conclude the conference schedule, as they take on LeTourneau on Friday before playing East Texas Baptist on Saturday.
