RICHARDSON, Texas - The Belhaven volleyball team took a split of their matches on Friday afternoon against Sul Ross State and McMurry in the first day of the final American Southwest Conference (ASC) Crossover on the campus of the University of Texas at Dallas.

Belhaven swept Sul Ross State in the opener, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-8) before falling to McMurry, 3-0 (16-25, 24-26, 15-25) in the nightcap.

In their first match of the day, the Blazers defeated the Lobos by limiting their opponent to an .010 attack percentage for the match. That percentage is the second-lowest of the season by the Blazers defense, and the Green and Gold has limited their opponent to an attack percentage of .050 or lower four times and six times at .100 or lower.

Belhaven collected 40 kills on 13 errors for a .255 attack percentage, their third-highest mark this season.

Leading the way for the Green and Gold was Blaykleigh Smythe, who killed 15 of her 23 attacks with no errors committed (.652 attack percentage). The junior also added four blocks in the win.

Hope Tourney added nine kills on 17 attacks, while also not committing an error. Averaging a .529 attack percentage, the freshman added two blocks.

Abbey Herman led the way on defense, digging out 14 SRSU attacks.

Kelly Aholt contributed with 35 assists for the Blazers sweep.

Candace Hugi led the Lobos with seven kills, with Hannah Zly totaled 12 digs.

In the match against the Warhawks, the Green and Gold (8-14) were unable to continue the low error efforts against the Lobos, as the Blazers committed 23 errors for an .078 attack percentage. The kills, however, were 36-32 in favor of McMurry for the match.

Jackie Gunderson totaled nine kills and eight digs for the Blazers, while Smythe added eight digs and a block.

Herman added 14 digs in the match with the Warhawks, while Lauren Whiting totaled nine digs and six kills.

Aholt added 35 assists on the floor in the nightcap.

Madison Reed, Jordyn Burnell and Justice McGowan each had seven kills for the Warhawks, while Odalis Rodriguez collected 12 digs in the win.

The final crossover of the season will conclude with the Blazers taking on Concordia Texas in Richardson. First serve is slated for 12:30 p.m.
